Bedford family brewery and pub company Wells & Co. are proud to announce that, from 1st April onwards, their entire UK-managed estate will be powered by renewable electricity.
Collaborating with energy consultancy Inspired Energy, the team at Wells & Co. have been working for some time now to consolidate a patchwork of varied energy deals, acquired as their pub estate has increased in size in recent years, into one renewable electricity package. This new arrangement gives the fifth-generation family business confidence that each new pub added to its estate will be powered sustainably.
Nick Wells, Head of Estates for Wells & Co., explains: “Following a period of growth in our managed pub estate, we found ourselves administering a whole host of different energy contracts from different suppliers. Funnelling these contracts down to one over-arching deal for our UK-managed pubs has been no small task, but ensuring that our sites are reducing their emissions by accessing renewable electricity gave us ample motivation to do so. We now have consistency and visibility of supply to all of these pubs and have taken an important step forwards in pursuing our Triple Bottom Line ethos that prioritises our impact on the natural environment and the communities around us. ”
Megan Lane, Key Account Manager at Inspired PLC, added: “With rising utility costs and the threat of climate change, now is a crucial time to take control of utility consumption, costs and carbon emissions. We are delighted to support Wells & Co., a long-standing Inspired client, by moving their managed estate to 100% renewable electricity contracts to help reach their sustainability goals. Wells & Co. will secure their electricity from sources such as hydro, solar, wind and biomass, backed by UK Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and European Guarantees of Origin (GoOs).”
