International Women's Day: Meet Jackie Black

In the lead up to International Women’s Day, which is taking place on Saturday 8th March, we will be sharing some of the stories of our fantastic female colleagues that are part of the Wells & Co. family.

First up is Jackie Black, Brand Manager at Wells & Co.

How long have you worked at Wells & Co?
Just over two years.

Can you provide a brief overview of your role?
I am honoured to be Brand Manager of Brewpoint. I see my role as the custodian of the Brewpoint beer, from working with our brilliant brewers developing new brands to suit our pubs and consumers to our innovative design team. It is then great to see the products landing in our customer's hands and ensuring that we are providing the quality we are promising.

I strive to communicate Brewpoint Brewery's authentic identity through the creation and execution of multi-channel marketing campaigns to define the quality, values and identity of the Brewery and Wells & Co.

What do you enjoy most about working at Wells & Co?
Collaboration and support across the whole company. I am lucky that my role requires me to interact and collaborate with all departments within the Wells & Co office and onward to our fantastic pub operators and beyond. Every day is different in the best way and the opportunities to grow are endless.

What did you do before joining Wells & Co?
I am originally from Philadelphia in the States where I began my career with a small family run Brewery for about 8 years where I was privileged to grow my skills and passion for craft beer with the company's success.

I moved to the UK in 2021 where I was GM at Brewdog Milton Keynes, then Event & Sales Manager at Brewhouse & Kitchen MK – noticing a trend here?! Then I couldn't pass up an opportunity to work for another family run brewery with such rich history at Wells & Co.

Have you had any training or development since joining the company? If so, can you provide a brief overview of what the training was and how it helped?

I am currently halfway through my Level 4 CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) qualification on my own time, sponsored by Wells & Co. This has provided invaluable knowledge that I have been able to apply every day as I progress through the course.

What are your career goals for the next few years? What would you like to achieve?
I have recently been promoted to Brand Manager which has been a goal of mine for the last two years. I would love to develop a brand management team within Wells & Co to further add to the value of the Brewpoint brand.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is Accelerate Action – can you tell me what that means to you?
In relation to women in business and especially in a traditionally male dominated industry as brewing, accelerate action is a way to not just talk about gender equality but do something about it. With the international acknowledgement of IWD, the conversation has started but now it's time for actions to be made starting at the foundation with training and recruitment across all industries.
