Houghton Conquest, Bedfordshire Pub is a winner in the Great British Pub Awards

The Knife & Cleaver scoops Best Pub with Rooms in the national competition.

The Knife & Cleaver has been named the UK’s Best Pub, with Rooms in Great British Pub
Awards Pub 2021. The Houghton Conquest Pub was honoured at the live stream ceremony of the Great British Pub Awards at London‐based pub Greenwood, after fighting through several rounds of challenging judging to be the selected winner.

The competition, which is open to pubs from across the UK in a wide number of different
categories, see judges travel the length and breadth of the country to assess the finalists
and pick out the best in the trade.

The awards – organised by pub industry bible The Morning Advertiser – celebrate excellence across the sector in 15 different categories, from the best food to best live entertainment venue.

Ed Bedington, editor of The Morning Advertiser, explains: “We’ve seen the importance of
pubs in society during the recent lockdowns we’ve all suffered through, and these awards
aim to recognise those that are doing an outstanding job in their field. “Pubs have done an amazing job in horrendous circumstances in the last 18 months or so, and it’s a real pleasure to be able to shine a spotlight on the sector, and highlight some of the great businesses out there.

“Pubs don’t sell beer, they sell experiences and social opportunities, the chance to gather
with friends, make new friends, celebrate and commiserate – all of which we’ve struggled to do during the crisis, so let’s celebrate the return of the Great British Pub by celebrating
