Cox’s Yard, a riverside pub and bar in Stratford-upon-Avon, opens its doors to local traders this weekend to host the town’s postponed Christmas Market.

The Stratford-upon-Avon Christmas Market that was due take place on 7th and 8th December was unfortunately cancelled at late notice as a result of an amber weather warning issued by the Met Office. Storm Darragh brought winds in excess of 60mph across the region, posing a danger to life.

Not wanting to see disappointed local traders and community, Cox’s Yard worked with the Stratford-upon-Avon Forum, a local Facebook group, to contact any vendors who still wanted to participate, in the comfort and safety of the pub. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with more than 10 traders participating, all at no cost to them.

Callum Killarney, General Manager at Cox’s Yard, operated by Wells & Co., said: “The annual Christmas Market is an opportunity for the local community to come together to celebrate the festivities and get into the Christmas spirit. When we heard about the potential postponement, we wanted to do everything that we could to help.

“The response we received on social media was incredible and I am delighted that we have been able to bring together more than 10 local traders, all of which have amazing products and services, into our pub. Everyone in our local community is always welcome at Cox’s Yard and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come together in such a short period of time to make the event happen.”

Dupped locally as the ‘miracle market’, vendors included food and drink suppliers, jewellery makers, vintage clothing outlets and fragrance creators. Hundreds of residents attended the events over the weekend, cementing Cox’s Yard’s reputation as a pub that is at the heart of the local community.
